Saar Mosel Winzersekt (SMW)

SMW is the proof that world class sparkling wines must not be expensive. Saar Mosel Winzersekt in Trier is dedicated to producing outstanding sparkling wines from the Mosel region. In many blind tastings, their sparkling wines have beaten numerous Champagnes and sparkling wines from around the world.

The grapes are provided by 120 vintners along the Mosel, allowing for cuvées of a high and constant quality. Most SMW sparkling wines are produced with the traditional champagne method: for three weeks, the bottles are twisted by hand on a daily base. Most of the sparkling wines are based on Riesling and Elbling grapes, which have the high acidity needed for outstanding sparkling wines. In addition, SMW also produces some excellent sparkling wines from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer grapes.

SMW is one of the few vineries in the world which has a large selection of vintage sparkling vines, which have been aged for up to 20 years on its yeasts.
